Uc and child going to University, confused

My son is going to university this year. I cuurently claim UC for 2 children. I put on my journal about what I needed to do and I was told nothing as they would automatically remove him from my claim from 31st August.
Is this right?
I have been sent 2 To dos, one to Update childs education( showing date of 4th July) and one about Children and other people who live with you.

What do I put as date for both as was told 31st Aug by an advisor on my journal, but to dos seems to imply my claim for son finished in July?

Your Son ceased to be a child on your claim from the day after his non advanced education (A Level) ended

You need to report change to children and other people who live with you noting the relevant date. You include Son as other person (not child), so that if you have Housing under UC claim you have correct Housing entitlement allowing for him coming home for holiday periods.

You will then end up with 1 child being paid and an adult non dependent.

@huckster the issue isthat that isnt what I was told by the advisor on my journal. I was told twice that the claim wont change until Aug 31st. I queried this and said is it not the date college ends, and was told no its 31st August. I dont want to make a mistake as could end up having to repay payment Ive already had (although Ive saved it cos wasnt sure) or lose out on payment if I put earlier date when dont need to.

Unfortunately advice from UC can't be relied on, they administer claims they aren't welfare rights advisors.

Up until recently there was a misunderstanding of the rules within Universal Credit Service Centres and Job Centres. This was subject to guidance issued about 2 months ago, which made it clear that the 31st Augusr was not the correct date to be used. It was the date of the education ending that was relevant. The person responding to your journal was incorrect.

This issue has been subject to thorough discussion in a number of threads posted by other users.

As 31st August is now in the past as long as you report the change it is not your fault if the advisor has given you incorrect information to follow.
