Seems correct to me.  A warranty repair is very different from regular servicing.

Your garage should never have done the repair. . Your garage should have told you that... As an aside who decided it needing replacing, As it may not  be covered anyway (consumable part).
It's not a garage's job to know the T&Cs of all warranties, only the ones they sell (if any). It's not their place to advise on the interpretation of warrant terms either.

But wouldn't you expect a reasonable garage to advise the OP to check whether the warranty T&Cs would cover their repair?

To be honest, no I don't.

By your argument, the garage would have to question every job they are offered on cars less than seven (maybe ten) years old.

Would you suggest that the every tradesman quoting for minor property repairs should do the same because it might be covered by the householder's insurance, which might have restrictions about who could carry out the work?

I would expect the customer to have done this before deciding to come to me.

It's not my job to turn away customers and I've not marketed our services claiming to be eligible with the Kia warranty. I will say I generally think the nanny state is wrong and people should be expected to take more personal responsibility than expect everyone else to be looking out for them.

Now it's totally different if the customer asks me if my work will be covered by the warranty, my honest answer would be no idea.
