Benfits And Selling On Vinted

I'm a 50 year old woman who has struggled with serious mental health conditions for many years having no interest in life until recently.
I made a birthday hamper for my dad who was so thrilled he asked me to make a couple for him to give to his friends. I got such good feedback i started selling them on my Vinted account and unexpectedly they sold really well. I was just getting into it when vinted closed my account unless i changed over to a Pro account, which i did and am now back selling.
My problem is that I'm on benfits including housing benefit and although I don't make a fortune I'm still worried. I also think if i really went for it maybe I could be a success and make serious money but is it worth the risk ?
It helps my mental health no-end so would be sad to give it all up

Has anyone any advice on any of it?

What benefits exactly are you claiming?  That's information needed for members to be able to give as full advice as possible.

If you are on disability benefits there are often ways to work part time without losing your benefits, you do have to notify DWP though. It will help if you can say what benefits you are on as there are some very knowledgeable people here. It’s best to know your rights before you notify DWP. It’s great that you have found something that makes you a bit of money and helps your mental health - good on you.

I can't advise on the benefits but remember as well that depending on turnover, not profit, you might need to declare to HMRC. That doesn't mean though that there will be any tax liability as that depends on all sorts of other circumstances.

HMRC need to be informed once your turnover exceeds £1000 in any tax year, that is total income before expenses. Vinted will do this automatically on your behalf anyway but they also set a reportable limit of 30 sales in total a year whichever is lower.

Good advice, as sites like Vinted are now required to share data with HMRC
