Flight delay compensation ryanair

Hi all,

We were meant to be flying last Friday from Birmingham to Málaga at 5.45pm but the flight got delayed for approximately 2hrs 45 minutes due to a technical issue which turned out to be one of the engines which wouldn't start so instead of landing approximately 9.30pm we landed just before midnight.
We weren't offered any food drink or anything else to compensate for the delay and the captain did update us a few times with how long things might take to get repaired but in the end they decided to change planes and we took off about 8.35pm. The other problem was that the replacement plane has hardly any food or drink onboard because they were so rushed to get going.
My wife is diabetic and during the flight we had to ask for a drink for her quicker than they would normally had served her because of her diabetes.
I have tried to make a claim through Ryanair's website but they are saying that because it was a delay of under 3 hours we aren't entitled to anything.
Are they correct or just trying to fob us off?
Do we have any other course of action

Kind regards mark

They are correct. If doors open 179 minutes late or less on arrival, you get no compo

Yes, they're correct - they're only required to offer refreshments if the departure delay exceeds three hours (for a flight of this distance), and likewise the fixed tariff compensation threshold is also three hours delayed arrival.

I appreciate your wife’s condition but would this not mean that you both should be better prepared for these eventualities? Take your own suitable food/snacks and a drink?

If you purchased food or drink at the airport or on board they will refund that.

For a delay under three hours? Also Im not sure even for a delay of 3+ they would refund on-board purchases, you would have likely been purchasing anyway had the flight not been delayed.

Yes, delays over 2 hours entitle you to food and drink, and onboard purchases were certainly refunded for me.  11.99 Euro meal deal approved within an hour of submission.

Fair enough, I've never had to claim on that basis but useful to know.

    Did this include alcohol?  :D

In any case there was likely not much left, the plane in question is a Birmingham-based Ryanair plane and would have likely just done a there and back to somewhere else and the OP said they had no time to reload the catering.

No, eligibility for refreshments during delays is banded, so two hours applies only to short flights of below 1,500km, but OP, flying from Birmingham to Malaga, would only be entitled to refreshments if the delay exceeded three hours:
