I've seen that - you reckon it'll work?!
Also, he doesn't want to scare off wee birdies.
Does he feed the wee birdie's?

Most of these devices tend to work for a limited period. It's depends how desperate animals are to come into a certain area. When food is involved they tend to learn very quickly about fake birds. Most of the farm lads I've spoken to seem to think that the 12 bore seems to work the best, as they don't seem to like getting shot at.
Don't let STTSP find out what you are planning.

I used a water pistol on the ones that landed on my one storey extension waking me up.
It didn't reach them and initially they sat and looked at me curiously but a couple of goes and they didn't come back.

    Worked with fighting cats too.

For seagulls on the roof opposite I used two reflective lights set in my bedroom window and moved them occasionally to follow the gulls. I got a few curious stares from people who noticed but it worked after a week or so.

Birds don't like eyes that may be a predator looking at them but they can spot and work out that plastic owls and hawks aren't real.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

They hate garlic. Cut it up or grate it and sprinkle around.

I don't think so. I imagine he likes them, and wouldn't want them penalised for the behaviour of a belligerent pigeon.
But, hey, if all the birds need to go, so be it...

Nothing will be selective.  it will scare off all birds or none.

That's why I'm hoping the PIR sprinkler will react to a fat pigeon, but won't to wee birdies.
Yes, the spinning sparkly things will likely scare off all, but that's a small sacrifice if it actually works.
