I'm looking to trade in my current iPhone 14 Pro 256GB (unlocked) and could really use some advice on which reseller to go with.

Phone Details:

  • iPhone 14 Pro 256GB, unlocked
  • Battery health: 82% (as shown in Settings)
  • Charge cycles: approximately 560 (checked using iOS Shortcuts)
  • Owned since: January 2023
  • Condition: Excellent - no scratches, bends, cracks, or damage of any kind. It's been in a case since day one and very well looked after.

I've checked the MSE-recommended comparison sites (SellMyMobile, Compare and Recycle, and Compare My Mobile). The pricing seems fairly consistent across these platforms.

The Issue: Here's where it gets interesting - there's a massive discrepancy in potential payouts:

  • UR (via SellMyMobile): Shows as the highest-paying option on the comparison site, but when I go directly to their website and enter my phone's actual details, they'd only offer £157. Apparently the battery state and cycle count means they'd grade it as "Poor."
  • We Buy Any Phone: Seems like they'd grade the same phone as "Good" and pay around £500.

That's a £343 difference for the exact same device!

Questions:

  1. How strict do these companies actually stick to their stated grading criteria?
  2. Has anyone had experience with either UR or We Buy Any Phone specifically?
  3. Are there any resellers that are generally more lenient/better to deal with than others? Other than the battery, which is inside the 80% Apple-recommended replacement window, the rest of the phone is in excellent condition.

Any experiences or advice would be much appreciated. Cheers!

Whilst it is inside the 80%+ definition of "normal" by Apple it is only just and the cycle count is relatively low for such a low capacity. Mines done 25% more cycles than yours and yet has 87% capacity still, so has lost 38% less than yours.

Haven't used the firms you mention, always just sold on eBay, but We Buy Any Phone's grading says Good has to be perfect, Pretty Good is perfect to the naked eye but scratches visible under magnification and Average has visible marks.

I dont think I've ever seen a 2.5 year old phone with not a single mark on it under magnification let alone one with none so wouldnt be surprised if it was deemed average irrespective of the battery life.
