  • If it is a CPA then Halifax lets you cancel these via app under manage subscriptions (tap the 3 dots at top right first)

If he wanted to use your card instead of his own then he either didn't have the money available at the time or he set out to deliberately defraud you.

Regardless of whats happened you have the power to stop money being taken from your own account. Does it show up in the "manage subscriptions" section of the app? If it does you can cancel it there, if not report it as stolen and tick the cancel card, new card and new pin options.

I would freeze the card and order a new one if you can.  It will come with a different 3 digit security number on the back.  I wouldn't hold out much hope of getting the money back if the bank have already said it's your fault for giving out your card details.  As to the family - the nephew and your sisters response is quite shocking, and I'd be cutting them out of my life for sure.  At 23 years old he sounds like a spoilt brat
If I had a £ for every time I heard that I would be rich.
CVV is not involved in a CPA.
There is also Visa Account Updater (Mastercard have the same) which allows retailer to request the new card details to continue taking payments.

As this is a CPA & not a fixed term contract. OP needs to tell Halifax to block any further payments. It does not matter that he authorised them in the 1st place.
If they fail to act on this, then a complaint is in order. FOS will take a very strong view if it gets that far, as it is a breach of the Payment Services Directive.

Screenshot the reply and send it to his mother and her you want her to pay you back.

Plus freeze the card. And get your bank to stop paying Xbox. It is fraud.

Report the matter to the police as well

It's not fraud as OP agreed to it in the 1st place.
Police will just say it is a civil matter.

Even if police did get involved. Does OP really want it to develop into a family dispute?

Screen shot. Good idea, although going & speaking to them might be better.

Get a new bank account, preferable with a different bank.  Don't do a "switch" but rather do everything manually so the payments can't track through to the new account.

Drain the account the brat is using and ensure there is no overdraft facility so he can't make things any worse.

The mother is not responsible for her adult son's debts so that won't fly.

OP As advised, if this is a CPA then cancel it. Problem solved.

This is a extreme way, when OP's bank can stop it at source.

All well and good but won't work with a Continous Payment Authority.

The even simpler solution has been given, cancel it in app or phone Halifax.

It's not fraud but and a civil matter if refusing to pay back the money. But if the OP has stated not to use the card and the card continues to be used without repayment then that's theft.
