Best flushing WC - has anyone got a vortex?

We have to replace a 20+ year toilet which always flushes well (presumably because it's using so much water)
When we replaced our downstairs loo with a 'water saving' one - when regulations changed - it has never properly cleared poo away...my husband might continue to flush 3 or 4 times...then finally empty a bucket in there!
There seems some discussion online about poor flushing WCs, but most posts are old so maybe those issues have now been resolved by the industry?

I am really worried the new toilet will have the same problem.
Can anyone advise a good pan?
Definitely rimless?
Does anyone have a vortex - and are they worth it and easy for the plumber to fit? (He hasn't come across one before)

The bathroom suppliers have suggested a roper Rhodes 2025 torrent cistern - which they say is very good - but I think I am being a difficult customer :) because I can't decide on a pan.

Any help would be much appreciated - it's so expensive to get a new bathroom - and it would be awful if it didn't work well enough once everything has been fitted.

Have a look at a siphonic toilet https://toiletfound.com/siphonic-vs-washdown-toilet/

I had one in a house years ago and it was an excellent flusher!

We have a wall hung rimless Duravit - no flush issues for us. We don't have a vortex.

We bought the cheapest one from Wickes and it flushes better than the designer one in our bathroom!
Make sure the water tank is as full as possible by adjusting the ball valve.

Not an expert but I think there can be other factors at play, such as the toilet outlet being partially blocked, or its location.
For example we have two identical toilets fitted at the same time, upstairs and downstairs.
The upstairs one definitely needs a full flush, whilst the downstairs one has a hippo ( water saving device) and flushes fine even with the reduced amount of water.

The Roper Rhodes cistern is nothing special in terms of flushing. In fact 'cos it's pneumatically activated we had to change the manual flush for an expensive  battery operated touch-sensitive one to allow my wife to do it when one was fitted to the ensuite.  It worked the same as a cable-operated Siamp flush cistern that it replaced with the same smart bidet (rimless) pan we retained.

You want the old-fashioned high-level cistern for a really good flush where you actually have a chain to pull.

The siphonic pans are excellent;  if rather alarming in use... the water fills right up in the pan until the syphon occurs when its all sucked away in a rush.  Late F-i-L fitted one in one house.

Googling Vortex toilet pans suggests to me they are a marketing term for certain rimless pans... and all rimless work in a similar fashion. But I may be wrong.

Thanks all. So I need to process the info about siphonic....
Looks like rimless would be better - I know they are easier to clean and could help keeping the awful limescale we have under control.
I may just be unlucky with my downstairs loo!
I'm confused about your first paragraph Rodders53...but I'm afraid a Thomas Crapper is out of the question - the WC is underneath the window :)))

For years, I put up with a close coupled toilet that wouldn't always flush properly. Bit the bullet recently and replaced it with a low level pan & cistern. Didn't bother fitting the flush siphon & fill valve that came with the cistern. Instead, opted for fully adjustable alternatives from Viva (siphon) and Flomasta (fill valve).
After a few hours adjusting things, I now have a decent flush that nearly always works. Not sure if I'm "6l per flush" compliant. But I have a dual flush siphon for when it is just liquid waste to dispose of.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

    Many thanks freebear

    Don't actually understand that :)
BUT if I get the roper Rhodes torrent and a rimless pan then - when the plumber comes next week - I could say 'please don't bother fitting the flush siphon & fill valve that came with the cistern. Instead, I'll buy fully adjustable alternatives from Viva (siphon) and Flomasta (fill valve)'?

    Does that sound about right?

My husband would be good at tweaking things once it's installed I'm sure.
Thanks so much for continuing my thread

I know it's not what you're asking about, but I really recommend fitting a water softener if you have hard water. We moved from an area with hard water, to one with some of the hardest water in the country. Installed a water softener and it really makes a huge difference. Our skin and hair certainly feel the benefit, and we don't get the massive scale buildup on shower screens and toilets.

The make of fill valve will make absolutely no difference to the flush. The clue is in the name “fill valve”. It can be adjusted to increase or reduce the volume of water in the cistern as it fills.  The only difference between makes might be how quickly it fills the cistern or how quietly. All fill valves can be adjusted to increase the volume  and that might be all that’s needed to make you other toilet flush properly.

The flush valve can make a difference to the speed of the flush, but not the fill valve.

The Torrent is a prepackaged concealed cistern as far as I can see. Why not trust the guys at Roper Rhodes who designed it?  The internals are probably designed specifically for that cistern and your plumber may not even be able to change them for Freebear’s suggestions, which are for a different type of toilet.
