    Hi All,

    thanks for the advice 👍

Heres the answer to your questions and some more photos below

    A. The collar will come off the right hand pipe once removed by the other end.

    A. Don’t think it would fit if cut with a hack saw as I tried to offer up the opposite end of the pipe in question to the trap and it’s again the same diameter at the opposite end.

Thanks for the advice this is exactly why I asked for help 😂

If the Vertical pipe, push fit or compression elbow solution would work could someone please provide a link for such parts as the terms are alien to me 👽

    Cheers again all

    Tommy

Also the inside of the RH pipe will not fit over the protruding part of the new LH fitting, the diameter is exactly the same and there’s just no give in either.

  • Were both ends of the new LH fitting (the trap) the same?
  • Looks like someone has bodged that together with parts from another sink waste set.

I think you’ll need to fit a short section of pipe vertically into the 1/2 bowl waste where the blue arrow is (reuse the seal and the nut) then at the bottom use a pushfit elbow like this https://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-push-fit-waste-knuckle-bend-white-90-40mm/18679
and another very short piece of pipe, essentially to replicate that right hand section.

This should then join into the new trap.

You'll have to buy at least a metre or two of pipe I’m afraid as they don’t sell short lengths.  Cut it carefully with a saw and trim off any swarf carefully with a sharp knife so the pipe slides neatly into the fittings. A bit of washing up liquid on the surfaces helps.

    Annoying, huh?
Very crudely, you'll need as btw suggests above, or possibly Stuart's idea could work too.
To clarify btw's, you'd need this:

Ie, two very short lengths of pipe, and an elbow. These are 40mm push-fit. I think the 40mm refers to the pipe's OD, but you'll need to confirm. These bits are:
What I would do is to measure the OD of the elbowed pipe (yellow) you've just removed, and also check the dia of the receiving hole in that Tee piece, 'cos the new pipe will have to also fit in there. AND, the OD of that central spigot in the trap, 'cos the new pipe is going to have to fit OVER that, and a 40mm OD pipe will have an ID of around 37mm...
Yes, it's all hellish. Solvent fittings have a different size again, but you don't want to go there - '40mm' pipe can be two sizes.

That would work equally well. You’ll still need some pipe and an elbow to connect it up.

Thanks all for the advice will pay another visit to screw fix over the weekend.

Just playing with the trap and reversed the right hand 90’ joint (2nd pic) would this make a difference?

As the right hand pipe (waste water in to the trap) would sit higher than the left hand pipe (waster water out) would it affect operation of the trap or cause issues?

    Cheers

    Blimey!
Ok, head-scratch. How did that extra screw collar get on there?!
In that last pic, it's the RH elbow you changed around? Does it make proper, sealed, contact with the U bend that way around too? If so, does that open end - ie the one that doesn't have the central round sleeve - now make connection with the old 'vertical' pipe?
    This is too weird!

As for your other Q - no, the slight height difference won't make any practical difference to the performance. The static water level inside that U will be set by the level of the grey waste pipe.
