Confused over how to leave ID mobile and avoid a new bill?

I'm confused how I'm meant to, or was meant to, avoid paying for another month beyond my 24 month phone contract, before switching providers from ID mobile.
My 24 month contract was due to expire on the 16th August 2025. My end of contract notification email said if I switch to a new provider any time after the 16th August, I wouldn't be paying an early termination fee.
However I've been issued with a new bill covering 17th August to 16th September, due on the 31st August. This will be my 25th payment. If I ask for the 'cost to leave' on the ID mobile app, it says my estimated final bill would be the £34.58 full monthly cost, but £0.00 in line rental left on the contract.
I've ordered a lyca mobile sim and have a PAC code an just intend to switch before this happens again.
But I don't understand how I was meant to be able to switch whilst avoiding an early termination fee, and the cost of the bill for the 25th month?

I dont know how they operate but normally there would be a new bill produced afterwards with a refund/credit based on the actual day the service terminated - phone companies (and Sky, and Virgin) generally bill in advance2

To cancel your iD Mobile account, you only needed to obtain a PAC or STAC and provide it to your new network by the 15th. This would have resulted in your account being closed on the 16th, leaving you with no remaining balance to pay.The reason you’re seeing £34.58 is because you must give iD Mobile 30 days’ notice to cancel your account if you don’t want to use a PAC or STAC. However, if you do use a PAC or STAC, you’ll receive some of that £34.58 back. The amount you receive depends on how long you wait before submitting your PAC or STAC.1

£34 is a lot of money for a month's-worth of SIM-only. Is this a phone + plan contract that's just ended? Don't think you should still be paying for the phone.0

OP is on a phone + plan contract, it's in their original post.
As WelshPaul has said, OP can cancel with less than 30 days' notice using the PAC they have in hand. If the contract dates are as stated, OP is now out of contract, so there should be no early termination charges for using the PAC to switch away. The response to the text "INFO (date of birth)" to 85075 should confirm this with a quote of £0 to end the plan today.0 -
I cancelled thru their online assistance, to end on last day of contract. Guy said wait until after last day to get PAC as it would be doing the same thing twice something like that.
Hopefully an ok way to do it.0 -
You can obtain a PAC at any time, it only takes effect when used by your new network. Using the PAC automatically cancels the existing contract.Simion said:I cancelled thru their online assistance, to end on last day of contract. I wouldn’t leave it until your current contract ends, that is likely to either result in another month being charged, or if the contract is cancelled your number may be deleted. Use the PAC a few days before D day, don’t worry about the loss of a few days of the old contract.0
