It's £499, but the purchaser has a school email address which is sufficient for a £100 discount (offer ends 24/08).
At £399 I recon that's quite a bargain.
I went ahead though with the Acer Aspire 3 from Very. I arrived on Wednesday so i'm still getting to know it!
I like the keyboard feel and the touchpad is much larger than my old Pavilion which helps when taking screen shots. Its not the quickest though, probably not much better than my old HP, despite uninstalling a bunch of bloatware and disabling start up apps, but its ok.
For what i paid around £289, with the Very discount and TCB, i'm happy for what i got.
After initial load up when i run the windows updates, the fan was running flat out, i was thinking this sounds like my HP (fan ran on it constantly) but then i realised the updates were heavy on CPU so that explained it. Now as quiet as a mouse!
I wanted to try Linus mint, so i installed it on old HP just to try it out, it was fast compared to the old windows 10.
I'm going to get a sata-usb cable and boot the Acer with it just to see how i like it.1 -

I'd suggest a decent second-hand/reconditioned Windows laptop such as:
Refurbished DELL Latitude 5320 Intel Core i7 11th Gen 16GB RAM 256GB SSD 13.3" Windows 11 Pro Laptop
You get a decent machine for most basic tasks, basic warranty and can pop another operating system like Chrome OS if you want down the line.0
