You didn't miss it, no mention of how it is powered in that link (and the stated dimensions are hopelessly wrong).flaneurs_lobster said:
Ah, missed the Crossly reference. Unless I've also missed it in that linked description, there's no mention of how the thing is powered?sheramber said:flaneurs_lobster said:Could be.
Or one of the other 161 "lp players" shown on the HMV site.
Most of which look like the Dancette I had in the Sixties.
"lp player" - do you mean a turntable? Now you know it is called a lip player. The Op says it was a crossly and cost £89. Link fits the bill.
Assuming it is the Crosley Voyager, Currys website gives the correct dimensions and says it is mains powered and the box includes AC power adaptor.
There is quite a detailed US review of the Voyager in which the reviewer opens it up and examines the circuitry. The reviewer is critical of the audio quality and the destructive weight of the stylus on vinyls, and is equally critical of the interior which he describes as very cheap, all the circuitry merely glued together with gobs and gobs of hot-melt glue.
I suspect that the supplied AC adaptor was also cheap, probably not EU compliant and not electrically safe, and is possibly the item which the fire brigade said to destroy.
The OP's daughter's LPs have had a lucky escape.0 -
You can't get a decent record player at that price. You'll struggle to get a decent one at 4x that price.
Amazon currently have a discount on a Denon DP400 at just over £400

I have to agree, I would say any turntable less than £300 is going to be pretty poor quality. When I tested out options for what I wanted I found that even £500 was not really enough. I ended up going for the Pro-Ject Juke Box E1 with the Speaker Box 5E, slightly over what I wanted to pay but I had to go up to that level to get something I was happy with quality wise, both in terms of physical construction and audio and I am by no means an audiophile.outtatune said:You can't get a decent record player at that price. Define "decent" but I'd risk my vinyl on something cheaper than that, £119 at Richer Soundsouttatune said:You can't get a decent record player at that price. You'll struggle to get a decent one at 4x that price.

But of course it isn't a "record player" (no speakers, no amp, not portable).
Is this where someone chips in and says it's not proper hi-fi unless the speaker cable cost 8 grand a foot?0 -
I used the cables that came in the box, talking to a sound engineer at work he said generally the ones that come with a half decent kit will be more than good enough, especially as the acoustics in most people's homes are so far from ideal that they will not be able to hear the tiny difference they could make on a £5k turntable and £20k amp, let alone with any normal kit.flaneurs_lobster said:

Look to see if you have a repair cafe nearby,
https://communityrepairnetwork.org.uk/find/
They will advise you on whether it is worth saving and may even repair it0 -
I got one of those from RicherSounds ............ the sound quality is very good indeed.flaneurs_lobster said:

The hi-fi world is so egregiously full of snake-oil it's almost comical.MattMattMattUK said:

In fairness to snake oil sellers, if we are talking about a turntable without a built in stage then the low voltage of the output, particularly if its a MC cartridge rather than MM, is much more susceptible to interference than most audio kit but I too would expect the manufacturer to include appropriate cables for the price of the turntable and it only really becomes your problem if you decide to upgrade the cartridge.Ergates said:

In other places, and in particular with digital pathways, a basic solid build cable is going to get you the same result as your finest snow python oil. I will admit mine these days are not in line with this (other than the long HDMI to the projector) but these were all freebies when buying upgrades and so may as well use them than not. They've not made the tinies bit of difference but do look nicer.0 -
It's this one https://hmv.com/store/technology/turntables/crosley-voyager-grey-bluetooth-turntable?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19858660310&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsLKE8sWajwMVuJNQBh1hTiPmEAQYASABEgKDp_D_BwE
They said they checked with crosley and said the 12 month guarantee was also how long they would expect to work so said u had no consumer rights claim0
