Once an RTI dispute has been raised, HMRC will normally respond to DWP in 2-3 days. They may attempt to contact the employer for clarification if required, and usually expect an immediate response (within 24h), so DWP should get a response back from HMRC very quickly. DWP may then be a little slower actioning that response, but at least you should be able to ask what the HMRC response was to your RTI dispute, and if DWP can't answer that, then they probably didn't raise it.I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Benefits & tax credits, Heat pumps and Green & Ethical MoneySaving forums. With the RTI system, it works 99% of the time, when employers use the system correctly accurately reporting the payroll information.
The 1% where there are errors, is mostly down to employers and where an RTI dispute is referred by DWP to HMRC, enabling HMRC to contact employers, it provides opportunity for employers to identify the errors and improve future reporting. Sometimes it can be a DWP error, when there is a data issue, where for some reason DWP don't collect the data. But then normally where it is a DWP issue not picking up RTI data from HMRC, all of the earnings information is missing from DWP records.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.1 -
Still no update on this.I had one month reviewed, determined I was owed £60 and said the dispute was now closed. It had only been done for one month despite me specifically stating it was for the 2 year period. Asked again for the full two year period to be reassessed, it was put in on the 4th November apparently. It's the 4th time they've told me it has been sent!I'd like to ask for their complaints procedure but am worried this will this delay the earnings dispute. This has been going on since August 2025, but I was given incorrect information last year and again in May 2025.0

If you are not getting anywhere, your other option is to ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration (MR) of the amount of your UC award, and if that fails to yield the desired result you can file for appeal at tribunal where you can argue before a tribunal magistrate that DWP have not calculated your UC payments correctly according to the law (UC Regulations). The tribunal judge can then order DWP how to to correctly calculate your UC award. If you request an MR, you should present how you feel your UC award should have been correctly calculated.I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Benefits & tax credits, Heat pumps and Green & Ethical MoneySaving forums.
