hi we’ve been accepted for Universal Credit and everything has gone through. I’m trying to make a budgeting more easier and it would be helpful to open another bank account for me to transfer food petrol money in so it doesn’t get eaten up by bills do I need to inform UC ? that I’ve opened a bank account or does it not matter cause it’s not over the £6000 . Thank you

You only need to notify UC if your combined capital goes over £6k.You can have as many bank accounts as you like, you do not need to notify UC as long as your capital remains below £6k.Our green credentials: 12kW Samsung ASHP for heating, 7.2kWp Solar (South facing), Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh), Net exporter2

Another way to think about this is that when you get income, you transfer an amount that will cover your bills to a separate "bills" bank account. Then your bills money doesn't get eaten up by your food/ petrol/ other day to day expenses stuff.1
