Think this is true when there is a separate numeric keyboard, generally on laptops with screens > 14in, otherwise the things are centrally placed.Aidanmc said:Most laptops have touchpads that are off-centre.I may find it a bit difficult to adjust to this.Any laptops out there that have centred touchpads! The only one i can see is the MSI one suggested by @Cisco001 but there must be others?1 -
I'm finding the whole laptop market very confusing and extremely had to decide on one.Wondering now if i even need a windows laptop, maybe a Chromebook would fit my purpose adequately.Going to start a new thread on chrome book suggestions!0

FWIW, I did the shift from a Windows laptop to a reasonable spec Chromebook about 6 years ago, primary reason - cost.Aidanmc said:I'm finding the whole laptop market very confusing and extremely had to decide on one.Wondering now if i even need a windows laptop, maybe a Chromebook would fit my purpose adequately.Going to start a new thread on chrome book suggestions!
I only did this knowing that the household still had a W laptop, there were a couple of bits of software I used occasionally that were only available on that platform.
Otherwise, the Chromebook was fine for the usual day to day stuff, think of it as a phone with a big screen & keyboard. Pretty sure that these days they can all load/run Android apps. Do remember that there was a problem printing from the thing to my Inkjet wirelessly that was never resolved.
Having said that, I've swapped back to a W11 machine, a good Costco deal showed itself just as my Chromebook had reached end-of-updates so I jumped.1 -
Anyone use Acer laptops? Was looking at this one. I like the fact it has an actual ethernet port.

£30 cheaper at Very. Looks a decent deal, not the fastest and the screen is only 220 nits which is moderate but OK indoors.1

That Acer may be out of stock at Argos and is at John Lewis. The latter includes a 2 year warranty on their laptops.
Acer laptops are similar to Asus, but you need to compare the spec/features side by side.
16GB/500GB and an i5 or AMD equivalent is pretty standard for a home/office/student laptop.
Don’t wait long, as students will be looking for laptops prior to the start of the new academic year.1 -
Nothing specific, my partner has the similar 5600 cpu in a laptop, and my (older) Acer w/ an Intel i5 is a bit faster (albeit being 11th gen quad core). Could be due to any number of other factors tho'.Aidanmc said:When you say not the fastest, the processor speed is lowish at 2.1ghz?1 -

The Very free credit deal? I'm sure you're on top of this, but make sure you pay that off on time, their interest rates would make your nose bleed.
Can you come back please and give your impressions of this machine? Completely coincidentally a relative has asked me for buying suggestions for a new laptop with about this budget/spec.0
