BA cancel and delay compensation issue

A few weeks ago we had our flight from LGW to NCE cancelled after several hours at the airport. We were rebooked on a flight departing almost 24hrs later from LHR. The rebooked flight was then delayed for 5hrs. We have been paid £220 pp for the cancelled flight but BA have refused our claim for the 2nd delayed flight claiming that it is the same journey. Despite a break of 23.5 hours between both flights. Is this correct?

No, not correct - refer them to A and Others v Finnair Oyj (2020):an air passenger who has received compensation for the cancellation of a flight and has accepted the re-routing flight offered to him is entitled to compensation for the delay of the re-routing flight, where that delay is such as to give rise to entitlement to compensation and the air carrier of the re-routing flight is the same as that of the cancelled flighthttps://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/en/TXT/?uri=CELEX:62018CJ0832
However, they can refuse compensation for the delay to the second flight if it was caused by circumstances beyond their control, but that's a different argument....1
