New Car Battery

I think you dont need to change the battery as u just gave the reason it did not start. Your battery will be fine now.0

Really? Even after being totally drained after over 8 years in service?
It only gets a bit "weak" at times when I start, but is usually ok. I'll leave it for now and get it tested before the winter.0 -
leaving the fan on for an hour or so could have been a possibility of a sluggish start to your car, this because its still using power from the battery to power up the fan. your battery gets charged as you drive the vehicle throught the altenator. so, whilst sitting in the car, you would have taken the power out of the battery and therefore the battery hasnt got sufficient power rto turn the car over.
halfords do free bettery checks, but all that does is check the condition of the battery.
if the battery is fine then its nothing to worry about. if its weak, take your car out for a spin up and down the motorway, should bring life back into the batteru, and then the day after you've done this, take it to halfords again and tell them to check it. if the battery is still weak, it could be the altenator which is a car part that charges the battery, and hence, isnt doing the job.
hope this helps in pin pointing the problem,
hopefully it was just a weak battery due to the fan remaining switched on-and its a cheaper option as you can imagine!

I certainly hope so!! I will do that and take it to Halfords. Not taking it to Kwik-Fit as they aren't competent at all and are only out to make money. Thanks!0

I have same problem as I only use car in evening to go to supermarket with lights on both ways so battery never really gets a full charge in winter, I got it tested last winter at halfords and they said it had a dud cell, when I got home I put it on charge for 24 hours and it has gone for a year but in this cold snap (on freezing nights) it has groaned a bit but not yet failed to start, I will have to dig charger out again and charge it.
I had a Lifetime Warranty with Unipart battery on last car and still great after 7 years but I went for one last year and no longer do lifetime warranty, I also had a lifetime warranty on exhaust from Kwik Fit on last car but they have stopped it also, must be keeping our cars to long.
Best battery I ever had on a Nissan Micra, original Panasonic it lasted 13 years.0 -

i think halfords were trying to con you last year, if it had a dud cell then it would have failed much sooner than a year later, much sooner....work permit granted!0 -
The only trouble with these big places, like Halfrauds and Kwak Fat,is the workers are like robots, and are programmed to sell you something, even if you don't need it,that's why I NEVER go there.
As I am capable of checking/repairing/replacing most things myself anyhow,I know where to source my parts from, and it most certainly isn't them.
Ken.That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -
Presume you have checked the electrolyte level in the battery ???
Might just need topping up and a good charge ??0 -
