Local sims Japan

Hello, does anyone have ideas/suggestions about buying a local sim to use in Japan please? I'll be there for 3 weeks. Won't be needing to make calls but may need data if I can't find wifi. My phone is not compatible with esim as it's too old!

Have you checked the cost of roaming with your current network?

SIMs for tourists in Japan (like most things) are expensive, think £25 for 20GB would be typical.

What phone do you have? Needs to have 4G for data (although not necessarily VoLTE/4G as you don't need calling).

You can pick up a local sim in convenience stores such as 7-11 / FamilyMart but activating one can be a pain - my son had trouble in October with the first one he bought - the activation website really didn't like accepting non-Japanese ID.  I would highly recommend getting an esim compatible phone.
