Unable to find lodgers, is this a dead period?

Hi,
Two weeks ago I published my ad on Spareroom but I've received interest only from unsuitable people (in particular I wrote very clearly "no couples" at the top and at the bottom and guess what "we are a couple searching...").

The price is slightly over the others, but justified given the size, the comforts, the residential area and the proximity to the tube station.

Is this a dead period for searching lodgers? This area of London is definitely not an attraction for students.

If its such a large room why not couples?

August is peak holiday season so everything gets a little quieter as people are off on holidays outside of London but there is no totally dead period as there will always be someone that breaks up or needs to move at short notice for some reason

Because I don't want to have a second lodger.
In case of conflicts it's two against one, not really a scenario that I'd like to experience.

Maybe that's your biased opinion? The lack of interest suggests otherwise.

Would have thought the demand would be high in the current climate.

Ultimately your choice but assuming you own the place and so they are a lodger and not a co-tenant with you being a renter then its not a democracy and whether there is 1 or 12 lodgers its your decision as the owner.

Certainly the lady word is mine, but the situation would cause pain and stress, so I prefer to avoid conflicts and problems rather than committing time and pain to resolve them

Yes, two people dominating your space and then both backing each other up when you push back isn`t a good scenario, neither is a couple falling out and all the drama that could bring, but a single person can also have a friend/partner "over for the night" and this can become more nights and then semi-permanent, people will present a certain way and say anything you want to hear to get the space if they are needing a place to live, how they present after they are established in your home can be very different. I wouldn`t go the lodger route, just not worth the hassle in my opinion.

That's the reason why In my contract there are the clauses "the licensee can't have guest staying overnight under any circumstances" and "guests are allowed as long as they frequent the house with moderation".

I would have thought the opposite, it is getting harder to just turn up in the UK and take a minimum wage job due to work visa changes and changes to the amount of money you now need to earn to be here on a visa, also more and more young people are returning to live with parents (or never leave) where the home comforts will be free or minimum price. I agree about the asking price though, most likely too high in this case.

It's holiday season. I would expect things to pick up in a few weeks.

As for living with parents, if you read some the threads on the marriage and relationship board, people seem to think it acceptable to charge offspring full rent when moving back home. Most people don't have parents with spare rooms in suitable locations, so I would imagine that people tend to lodge where they can find work, rather than concentrate their job search on their parent's location.

Many parents still work so they also live where the work is.
