Hi

The builders who are installing our kitchen have moved a sink location from the original design without informing us, because they said it would provide more counter space. Whilst true the sink is now very close to the electric hob and oven.....is it safe to do this? Its only about 30cm from the edge of sink to the edge of the 1st ring. See photos. The last photo is the original design.

Personally. The old set up was better, as stood at sink you are not blocking opening the oven door.

Either way is only going to give exactly the same counter space...

I'm not aware of any specific rule about sinks and hobs.
That said, having three electrical sockets over the draining board seems a bit daft.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Is the hob induction or not?

To the best of my knowledge there is no legal requirement but there is a recommendation of a 30cm gap from the sink, inc its drainer, and any electrical components

Its probably ok by the regs, and less of an issue if its an induction so the glass won't be getting as hot as with an induction/ceramic but it looks awful in my opinion

At the end of the day its your house, so if not instructed by you, i'd want them to fit the kitchen as planned

How's anyone supposed to get to the draining board to do the drying if someone else is still at the sink? Add to that the the cooker panel and double socket ideally situated for getting splashed with water. I wouldn't want it like that.

Oh lordy that would drive me nuts; that layout is impractical to say the least. I'd be demanding they rip it out and stick to the plans.
More counter space my foot - someone didn't read the plan before fitting....

More importantly  the sockets and switches are also not allowed with 300mm of the sink area, thats a building regulation failure. The hob would be ok I think unless the hob manufacture states otherwise.

AFAIK it's rather a recommendation than a norm.

Restrictions apply to bathrooms not kitchens.

Our plugs are directly under the sink and was all signed off properly when it was built with them there

I would want it installed as planned.

Difficult to access draing board for 2nd person drying
    Upper cabinets compromise draining board
Having counter to slide saucepans to rather than onnto draining board.
    Access to oven.

They might expect you to pay for further length of worktop but it is their fault to rectify
