Except it's not. The box makes no mention of being in the film. Just has the branding of the film, which means nothing.

    Marketing mans dream 🤣

Sadly OP the toy company decided it is best to pay x for licensing and that will result in y from increased price and sales compared to a generic dinosaur and that it is.

There is no love for the product nor anyone to care whether a kid is disappointed with the toy not appearing in the film.

    It’s pretty soulless really.

If you go back to the store, say why you want to return, staff might just agree and do the refund, especially if they are a parent as well.

In terms of consumer rights you are looking at arguing a misleading action, it’s broad and non-specific focusing on the transactional decision of the average consumer.

Given the ambiguity it’s not worth pushing for a plastic dinosaur 🙂

If they come out with a T-1000 action figure with Terminator 7 written on the box I’d expect to see a T-1000 in the Terminator 7 film (if they ever make it) but that would be aimed at collectors who are going to take more offence at a swizz compared to kids who are cash cows no one cares about (sadly).
Other the type of dinosaur is in the film, or at least its bones are. Guess something with skin and that makes noise probably sells better than a stack of bones as a toy, not to mention the choke hazard.

Not sure where your assumption that those who design toys neither love the product nor care about kids? The two I know that do product design would very much take offence at both those statements.

There are challenges, as originally outlined, that toy production has to start long before the film is finished and so there will be a risk that you end up with containers full of toys that end up cut from the final version of the film, or as also pointed out, may be in some cuts but not in other cuts.

This toy technically was in the film, in part at least, and has been in many other JP films/shows. The previously mentioned one was fully in the film but ultimately cut but may reappear in a "directors cut" or in a future "cut scenes extras".

I'm not a fan of JP but there are plenty that are and many are saying the toys for this film are notably better than previous ones. What's the other solution? A load of plastic toys go into landfill because they were cut from the final edit?

I'm sure you are right on that point I was referring to the industry in general rather than those who may love their job designing cool toys.

Sort of strays in the philosophical really, a child's imagination is a wonderful thing, they don't really need the film, the branding (or to some extent the toy).

However if they are going to commercialise the toy by linking it to the franchise I'd typically expect it to appear in the film (not that I would care, or indeed buy such toys for my kid (not that there is necessarily anything wrong with buying such toys for your kids)).
