Manchester Airport Drop Off fine

My father dropped me at Manchester airport a few weeks ago in my car and did not realise he had to pay parking charges and he cannot use the internet anyway!! On my return from holiday I tried to appeal the fine on line but as my car in a contract hire I could not do this as fine had gone to car dealership. I sent an email to customer services who replied saying they could not deal with appeal but to send a letter by post which I did. I have had no response from my letter but have now been hit with £170 deb recovery fine.

Has anyone any advice please as a 4 minute drop off is now costing me £170

Its definitely not costing you a penny,  do not pay

Ignore the powerless debt collectors letters
  • Are the debt collectors powerless? I have spoken to them but they were just not interested. I am just concerned now that the cost will keep increasing.

Definitely powerless,  nothing else they can do except post scary looking letters, see post 4 in the newbies sticky thread in announcements near the top of the forum by coupon mad

Doesn't matter what the figures on the letters are,  even if it were double or treble,  it's just fictional numbers

I could demand £170 from you for writing this reply,  it's no different

So ignore,  do not pay   ( you asked for advice,  so follow the advice given   )

That sounds really frustrating, especially for such a short drop-off. I’ve heard Manchester Airport parking can be very strict with their charges. Maybe check the Parking Tickets subforum here — there are some good threads with template letters and appeal tips that might help. Hope you get it sorted!
  • That’s really harsh for just a few minutes! Airports seem to be clamping down hard on drop-off zones lately. If the fine went straight to the lease company, they may have just paid it and added admin fees without much investigation. It might be worth checking the MoneySavingExpert parking forum’s “NEWBIES” thread — they’ve got step-by-step guides for situations like this, including how to deal with debt recovery letters.

Not that im saying pay it, but i recently used the departure area of T2 and walked from the Radisson along the Skylink and even doing that walk, there are numerous large signs everywhere on the roads outside saying charged drop off, pay before midnight etc.

So how did at least two people in a car miss them all? 🤣

Certainly ignore. No costs are added. These are fake costs and you do NOT have a fine:

"have now been hit with £170 deb recovery fine."

However, the lease/hire fleet firm should by now have transferred liability to you. Have they done that? You need your own NTH but are you saying the daft debt crawler letter HAS come direct to you but no NTH?

Or did the daft threatogram go to the company? If yes, THEY MUST TRANSFER LIABILITY TO YOU AS THE HIRER/LESSEE.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
