    Remove the battery
Leave it to dry for a week at the minimum 2 weeks is always better.

Which way up you leave it doesn't matter the idea is that the water will evaporate the most important thing is that you don't switch it on

Now just incase I believe you will be inclined to try it tomorrow going off previous posts DON'T DO IT. leave it for at least a week

Not quite the same thing but may help you to keep positive and get you to keep your hands off it for the alotted time as per suggestions?! ;) ....But a while ago now I walked out into my back garden after a particuarly wet 24 hrs to find my DD had left one of those canvas foldaway chairs up in the garden, you know the ones?.... you sit in them and the seat forms a nice dip where your bum's been and doesn't bounce back when you get up!....... and what was in the dip?......Yeah! .....You guessed it an electronic device, namely her nintendo gamboy!.........I picked it out of the pool of water to discover the thing was full to the brim, in fact it was that waterlogged the tide was almost up to the top of the screen!!
However, (without switching it on, there seemed no point did there?) I prised the top edge of the case open slightly with a screw driver, emptied as much of the water out as I could, left the screw driver in to allow air to circulate and popped it onto a sunny windowsill and intentionally forgot about it for days.
To my utter jaw-dropping surprise when I removed the screwdriver and replaced the screws it turned on and worked from that day on as if nothing had ever happened!! :j ......................Hope you have the same result with the laptop lucygotit :D

it might be worth taking the keyboard off, its usually very simple like 2 screws to check for any sitting water.

if it its still powering up but blank screen after dry then try pluging an external monitor into the back to see if it gets a signal.

re your point about repair, unless its a £1000 plus monster it is rarely worthwhile repairing laptops, screens generaly cost £350+ and mobos aint far behind not including fitting. if it helps you can get a very decent speced laptop under £400 these days.

I once spilt almost a pint of water on my laptop (checking your emails after getting home extremely drunk - bad idea!). It survived to tell the tale though so fingers crossed for yours :)

What did I say a few days ago and what has everyone else been saying? leave it for a week to dry then leave it for another week.

Now just incase I believe you will be inclined to try it tomorrow going off previous posts DON'T DO IT. leave it for at least a week

If you want to buy a new laptop then turn it on and risk destroying it with moisture that is still in there.

If you are wanting to get the laptop working

LEAVE THE !!!!ING THING TO DRY, THE LONGER YOU LEAVE IT THE BETTER CHANCE YOU HAVE OF IT WORKING

I had to try it, daughter needed he course work printing off. Went to Mr T's and bought USB keyboard n works fine.
I have also found out that the double letters it was doing aren't double at all. When you press a k it does a k and a n. It has only affected the right hand side of the keyboard.
Anyway daughter and her teacher happy.

Sorry but thankyou so much for your help everyone and sorry I dn't listen but its like being told in a china shop "don't touch" or wet paint -"don't touch" - you still do though!
