Laptop - help needed - water problem!

What a day!
My daughter has spilt by accident some water onto her laptop.
When I turn it on, the screen is all black, I can hear the fan working though. When I try to turn it off - it won't let me, so I have had to take battery compartment off.
Is it repairable or is that it with it. I have put it in the airing cupboard to help dry it out.
As to the amount of water spilt onto it, I would say no more than half a cup.
Hope someone will be able to help with this

Same thing happened to my girlfriends laptop, she spilled a small amount of beer onto the keyboard while we were chatting. At first the same thing happened - screen black etc, then nothing at all.
I checked on the usual websites, all saying the same thing - not much can be done - expensive / impossible to repair it.
Told her to put it in a warm place for a few days, tried again and still nothing (no lights, noises etc.), however when she tried it after two weeks, it started working again, although the 'M' & 'Enter' keys do need an extra hard press sometimes.
So you can give this a try, failing that, can you not claim on your house insurance?0 -
remove the battery and leave it in the airing cupboard for at least a week.
even money chance it will work then.
water is better than other liquids as there is no residue.
most other liquids have sugar/s in them. and sugars cause all sorts of probs.Get some gorm.0 -
I had coke spilt on a laptop keyboard which my daughter didn't tell me about until I found keys sticking. Unfortunately its a whole row of keys that jam but I bought one of these http://svp.co.uk/product/a4_tech_mini_x_minus_slim_keyboard_5221 and its small enough that it only covers the keyboard part of the laptop and leaves the touchpad free.0

I have turned it on this morning, it turns on ok but when i put password in on windows, it puts each letter I press twice. I have tried deleting one of the double letters but doesn't accept it.
Will it just need drying out more??If this has helped you please don't forget to click Thanks, thankyou.0 -
Turning it on was a big mistake.
Should have moved it to airing cupboard and left it untill you thought it was dry.
Then leave it again for longer.
Then try it.0 -

It has been in aring cupboard for about 15 hours. I turned it on because I thought it would have dried out.
I have put it back in airing cupboard once noticed not working properly again.
I'l probably leave for a couple of days nowIf this has helped you please don't forget to click Thanks, thankyou.0 -

I knocked a glass of pop into mine. It blew the motherboard and ended up as an insurance claimIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Lucy, make sure that you leave it in there for 3-4 days, but well away from the direct heat of the hot water tank. It can take several days to dry out if water has worked its way into individual components.
Don't be tempted to turn it on again until you've done this, as you could do permanent damage!te audire non possum. musa sapientum fixa est in aure.0
