A couple of forum questions

Quite new here, although not to message boards in general and I'm looking for some help with the following, please:
1. How do I change the number of posts displayed per page? I can't find where to do it.
2. Can I disable the "badges"? I just got a notification to tell me I'd earned the "10 posts badge" - I don't want it and I don't want to be involved in any sort of contests based on engagement so would like to opt out if that's possible
3. Is there a "simple" mode that I can activate so that the pages are easier to navigate? There's a lot of clutter on what I assume is the default layout and I find it distracting
Would appreciate your help, thank you.

Hi
I'm afraid these features cannot be changed on an individual level.
You can change if you are notified about badges, and more, from your Notifications Settings:
From your Profile, select Edit Profile from the menu, then Notification Settings
Or click below to go there directly:

Thanks @MSE_Stephen - I've now turned those off.
A shame that there aren't the other functions available though. I know MSE is quite an old website and can tell that the message board is too - if there's an upgrade in the pipeline hopefully there will be the ability to simplify the layout a bit and customise it for a cleaner look.0 -
I don't think it's age-related but much of this stuff comes down to subjective personal preferences.judgingjudy said:A shame that there aren't the other functions available though. I know MSE is quite an old website and can tell that the message board is too
The forum was moved from one platform to another a few years ago, vBulletin to Vanilla if memory serves correctly, and as ever, a variety of changes were involved, many of which were seen as negative - one of these was the ability to customise the number of posts displayed per page, for example, so that was a feature in place for many years but which wasn't carried over to the new platform. I don't know if it's a feature available natively within Vanilla though....0 -

Within a period of time, we all get used to it and can barely remember what it was like before.I'm more interested in what I can learn from others than worrying about customising layout, badges, or lack of, or the look of it. I'd hope that over time you will find it useful and whatever it is that's bothering you about the way it looks won't bother you anymore.Make £2025 in 2025

I don't think I'm alone in not forgetting how the site was before @Slinky. There continue to be many issues with the 'new' site. The very reason I picked up on this thread is because I have this board bookmarked now so that I can check whether it's my devices/Internet connection or the site that is causing a problem. It's invariably yet another glitch. We even seem to have a permanent sticky apologising for the problems people are experiencing. ☹️Slinky saidHaving been a member for over 20 years, anytime the forum gets updated, there's a large number of people who won't like it and were perfectly happy with it the way it was.
