Incorrect meter reading
Comments

Jim - you need to give more info.
Did you change supplier to BG?
If so when?
What was the start reading?
What was the end reading for old supplier?
I honestly think this is just a meter read error that has been compounded because no one has investigated - but you need to go back to the start to see when it started to see how to resolve the issue.0 -
BG will be able to get any historical meter reads from the national database going back quite a while. Tell them to do that and to identify when the problem arose.0

What was the last 5-digit reading that your old supplier had? If it still begins with 4 then BG's reading based on the last 4 digits is essentially correct and you haven't suddenly used more gas.jim112 said:been in the house 40+ years the previous supplier had the full 5 digits though i checked a previous bill it looks like that BG added a zero in the first column
It might become an issue when you reach the next 10,000 point.0 -
Anyone can make a mistake. The meter reads 44760. You report 445670. BG assume 4456, because 445670 can only be right if there's a decimal point somewhere. Can you not send the photo to BG, apologize for your error and ask them to rebill on the basis of the actual reading?jim112 said:... my old analog gas meter reads 445670 ...
I'm not being lazy ...
I'm just in energy-saving mode.1 -
You need to look at the previous supplier readings as well then. i.e. did the error occur when you switched to BG or did it exist before you moved to BG.jim112 said:
No they have been using these reading for over the yearDE_612183 said:so this is the first bill with BG?
I think this looks like a "change of supplier meter read error" - go to BG tell them the current meter reading - do you have the final bill from your old supplier?
Normally you are asked to give a meter reading on a switch. So, what reading did you give and did the previous supplier use that?
