When does a mobile service contract start?

I always thought it was when you inserted a new SIM into a phone and connected. I'm wondering if this wording isn't ambiguous, as it seems to allow them to start it before you are ready. It's a SIM-only deal, and I appreciate it has to be started within 30 days.

Some hybrid PAYG with monthly payments (like Spusu) allow you to start the service at a later date.====1 -
OK, I was going to wait until my current month's data with iD was used up. If I get my PAC this weekend instead, how do iD calculate the proportion - I'd be 7 days into the month but used about 15 day's data (of 150 GB).0

The data is irrelevant, any refund will be based on the number of days of service that have been supplied (assuming you are on a PAYM deal with iD).nottsphil said:OK, I was going to wait until my current month's data with iD was used up. Don't cancel any DD with iD, they'll refund back to this account when the billing cycles complete (can take a couple of months).
Try not to initiate a number transfer over a weekend, they only get actioned Mon-Fri and you risk being stuck without service for longer if there are any problems.

The data use is not completely irrelevant, AIUI the monthly allowance will be pro-rated for the number of days service has been supplied, counting from the start of the billing month to the day your number is ported and the old line cancelled. You may end up paying some overage charges in your final bill, if your usage in this billing month so far exceeds that pro-rated amount.flaneurs_lobster said:

So for the example you've given, if you switch away 7 days into the billing month, and your monthly allowance is 300GB, you may get billed extra for usage over 70GB.
The best way to get a definite answer is to check with customer services.1 -
Well if the date they unilatterally connect you is ambiguous, then so is when you choose to insert the sim.nottsphil said:

I once successfully argued with another network when they connected me and started the month some time before the sim was actually delivered, meaning I *couldn't* use the service I was paying for during that time. However if I received the sim and just *chose* not to use it, I'd think that's on me and the charge would start regardless.1 -
It's iD - they don't have any 😧fiish said:flaneurs_lobster said:
