How long does an unactivated Orange PAYG sim last from the date it is issued?

I am thinking of buying a text alert system off Ebay that has an orange PAYG sim built in that as far as I know cannot be changed.

Just wondering if Orange cancel the sims if they are not activated for say 2-3 years after being issued.
