Courmacs Legal - Do I have to go with them ?

I made a mistake at the back end of last year and clicked on an advert for redress - just out of curiosity. I don't remember what I clicked or what information I gave away bar my email address and home address. A short time later I got 2 emails one listing one finance agreement and another listing 3 finance agreements from Courmacs . Each agreement had circa 19 pages of legal stuff with it and to be honest scared the hell out of me and I just didn't reply. I noticed that they had pre-filled everything including a half copy of my signature . Just recently I revisited the emails and noticed that I had a cooling off period of circa 14 days . With all the attention on the matter I phoned them today to say that as I hadn't replied to their emails I assumed that I was not a client of theirs to which they said that after the cooling off period elapsed I was deemed to be a client even though I hadn't signed and returned anything . HOW CAN SILENCE EQUATE TO CONSENT IN CONTRACT LAW ? If I did scribble a signature on the original enquiry what right have they to drag that across to all 4 legal agreements ? They say they will refer my case to their complaints department who I guess are getting alot of these at the moment. The initial reponse was we will charge you if you walk away . Can anyone send anyone else an almost random email demanding payment if they don't reply in 14 days ? Has anyone else had these issues and what was the outcome , please ?

Normally you would consent on the website and the documents are just sent as a record of what you consented to and no further signature would be asked for or required. Many online consents just type your name in a cursive style font as a proxy for a signature.
As long as the original process at least gave links to the terms and you clicked an "I agree" type button then its typically as binding as if you had signed your name with a quill and ink.
Most are a no win, no fee basis so no you dont get a random email demanding money if you dont cancel in the cooling off period. They come either if you ask to withdraw or if you are ignoring their requests for information as conditional funding agreements are subject to you continuing the claim to its conclusion and the "no fee" doesnt apply to a withdrawal.1 -
