Builder Depot refusing return under Consumer Contracts Regulations — advice needed

The last two comments are bizarre, and one is rather rude. Are you saying I'm lying about my parents state of health or age? Obviously, if I sold it, I would state that it is collection only, and they will need to bring enough people to move it. I have sold things like this before on ebay. Hundreds of listings are described this way. I've made clear my reasons on why we can't assist. I am 300 miles away, and my parents aren't capable. It deeply worries me how the last two posters likely treat any elderly or disabled people in their families.

As far as I can see (on this thread at least) you haven't told us anything about their state of health.

To be fair OP says they are elderly in the opening post, if they were former Mr & Mrs Universe we wouldn't have the thread so can assume they are not of an age and fitness to safely to move a fridge freezer 😊

My dad's elderly but I'm sure he could still shift a fridge. They're relatively lightweight, it's more the cumbersome dimensions which are the issue.

Ah this is really helpful. Is your dad available to help move a fridge for me please?

I certainly did not intend to be rude in any way. All I can see is that your parents are "elderly" / "over 70".
So are the people in this article:
My FiL is in his 80's and, while not as butch as Arnie, more than capable of assisting with moving a fridge freezer. I have not made any inference or judgement as to your parents' state of health.
I am fully aware that items can be sold online for collection only. But "bring enough people to move it" is all a bit vague and unenforceable.
I know. I once purchased a second hand fridge freezer, on arrival it was available just inside the seller's front door, I had a collapsible (and inadequate) trolley, heaved the fridge freezer over the door threshold and down the step with assistance from the seller. Then wheeled it on the trolley out to my estate car, laid the fridge freezer over and slid it in as far as it would go, but the fridge freezer was longer than the load bay of the car so the boot flap would not close. I had to drive home with the fridge freezer sticking out the end of the car.
An amateur buying a second hand fridge freezer will not have the same level of skill and experience at moving a fridge freezer as a professional delivery company. Nor will the individual have the same trolleys, flat bed etc. Nor will the individual have as much care for the paintwork while moving the fridge freezer.
I made my comments only to highlight that selling a fridge freezer online for collection only may not be as easy in terms of the actual collection as you seem to suggest - there is certainly no reason why it will be any easier than the collection by the professional courier and many reasons why it could be harder.
What, actually, will your parents do when the young couple turn up to collect the fridge freezer are actually an average 28 yo gentleman plus his pregnant wife?
There is also the factor, as @Undervalued mentioned, that you need to be seen to be reasonable and not intransigent.

Unenforceable? lol what are you on about. I am talking about selling a second hand item on ebay. I've had people come take a washing machine from my third floor flat without a lift because I made it clear that I don't have the facility to move it myself or help them. If you come and can't move it, then it means you didn't read the advert. If you don't want to buy it on those terms, then don't. The fact is, it will sell and someone will move it, because I'm not looking to make any money for myself. It's a £700+ unused fridge, that someone could get at a knock down price if they want it. If you turned up to my house, having bought a basically new fridge/freezer for peanuts, and not having read the fact that you will need to move it yourself, then you have abosolutely zero leg to stand on. I don't know why you're telling me about your father in law, unless he wants to help move my parents fridge freezer?

As with @user1977 a reference to the fact that many "elderly" are actually more than capable of assisting with moving a fridge freezer. I feel it would have been rather presumptious of readers to assume that your parents being over 70 meant also that they had limited physcial capacity compared to an average 70 yo.
I wonder whether you attitude that is evident in this thread is the same as how you dealt with the retailer / transport company and influenced the outcomes. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Before you ask, no, the flies cannot help with lifting the fridge freezer ;)

My dad is in his late 70s and could move a fridge freezer, rather he didn't but sure he would.
My neighbours on one side are only a few years further down the line, they are off out and about and mobile but I think their fridge moving days are over, they'd ask me but if OP's parents don't have anyone near by what can you do?
@ namsoni there is a contact email for the Builder Depot on the CEO email website, might be worth trying that for hopefully a better response.
They are a builder's merchants so if they want to branch out into fridges I guess they need to know how to deal with such situations.

This is a consumer rights forum, not a pip investigation meeting. I told you the facts; I wasn't expecting a Poundshop Miss Marple to start interrogating their veracity. Your honey-and-vinegar analogy is cute, but the fact is, you are rude, pompous, and incapable of providing consumer rights advice.
