DCA Claim Response too quick to have checked ?

Today at 13:58pm I have emailed Stellantis regarding 4 vehicle agreements, initial response received 13:59pm - Thank you for email etc and then at 2:00pm - After checking our records, we can tell you that we did not pay a discretionary commission to the dealer.

Surely they haven’t had time to check or am I missing something ??

How much longer would you like their computer to take for something that is a simple question with a binary answer?

To be fair, the particular database table that is queried is probably in cache memory at the moment.

If they have their house in order and have already identified each agreement and if it did or didnt have DCA how long do you think a query to lookup a couple of references and return a True or False flag?  In principle they could do thousands a second potentially.

I followed MSE template for a Vauxhall finance details last year and got a response back saying they couldn't find any details.

I have the finance agreement in my hand .

After a few weeks I sent an email to Stella this and after a week or so go a reply saying I did have a DCA and they will get back to me.

I had another Vauxhall car bought 2 years before on finance but no agreement just Car reg and they said they have no details so goodbye.

They may have upped their game now so they could be correct.

The cars bought from main dealers were in 2008 and 2010.

This thing has been dragging on for a long time - I would expect any company that might be liable would have been carrying out checks to find out just how much their liability might be.
In some cases they may well have become part of another group or could it be their exposure is so great that having to pay out would bankrupt them. They may well have ceased trading.
Just because it says ford over the door does not mean it is owned by them as I had to explain to people at times

The first point is quite normal e.g. when a firm deletes data under data protection laws, typically 6-7 years after the finance ended. Say you took out finance in 2008 on 3 year deal, finishes 2011, after 2017 or so, they are likely to consider deleting your data hence they can't find it. If you have copies still, they will accept them

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

In my case 2013 was when the car was paid off and in 2024 I asked about DCA and Stellantis said I had DCA on my finance and that was over 10 years after I had finished my finance/ loan with and the have the paperwork.

If firms are going to delete info after 6 years from finance ending then unless people have the paperwork customers will not get any money which is great for the finance firms I guess.

Anyhow if I or other people get and refund it will be a bonus.

Different firms have different rules, some may retain it for longer or perhaps even just an entry in a file somewhere that they can retrieve with enough information e.g. if the files were archived but you knew the agreement number they could dig it out. I used to work for a firm that did beauty treatment and we had patient records in archives in the warehouse, every so often we had to go climbing around racking looking in old boxes to find treatment records for a patient years later

Some firms will delete after 6 years from account closure under GDPR rules but it doesn't necessarily mean they won't have to pay something if there are other records - they might be forced to use educated guesses based on the data they do have for any customer who used them
