The idea is to encourage people to go into a store as they more likely to purchase other items. Simply because thats not what you want to do, does not mean you are discriminate against.

@Emmia I am sure there £6.99 a month from millions of other people who subscribe on a monthly basis, do you really think they'd be running a delivery system at a loss. and depending on your postcode your food will come from the nearest large Tesco to your postcode, which means using less fuel. and don't forget to add the extra £5 if your basket is under £50
If you are only paying £7 per month for delivery, that is not enough to even cover the costs of one delivery.  So, yes, that makes the delivery a "loss leader".

The part that confuses me is how much of a "leader" this loss really is.  It seems to me that a home delivery fails to get the "lead" part of a "loss leader" as you are not actually entering the store to make additional / spontaneous purchases that you might well not have made otherwise.

@marcia_ Depends how you want to spin it, but technically it is discriminating against people who can't go actually into a store but still have a valid Tesco clubcard they can use.

@Emmia That's why you pay a monthly subscription on there delivery saver. I get store pricing may differ, but What prices are instore should reflect online in your account. Because when you log in to your account Tesco you are seeing the prices, from the store that delivers your food. Also because I have 2 large stores near me. I can go online, do a click and collect from either store, and depending which store I plan to collect from, Item stocks differ.
Not being arsed to go to a store is not a protected characteristic. Not every elderly and disabled people can't go into a store. Plus they must know about your disability to have intentionally discriminated against you

It is against the law to discriminate against anyone because of:

    • race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin

So when I spoke to Tesco about this, they came with the same BS, it might have been a instore exclusive only, but no where on the sticker or the price label say instore offer only, it just says club card price. maybe Tesco need to make it more clear, as to when it is a instore offer only, or online and instore.

I didn't say all disabled people are elderly, I said the Elderly and the disabled. I separated the two.

You know, if you don't like it, you are free to vote with your feet and shop elsewhere.

Clutching at straws to suggest 'discrimination' in the legal sense but the word isn't exclusive in its use. I very much doubt it would be covered IN the legal sense. e.g. how many older folk are more capable of taking the bus as opposed to logging on to order shopping? The answer is....don't buy it!

This is definitely clutching at straws. I've been a Tesco online shopper (and occasional physical store one) for years now. I accept there can be different instore vs online offers. I've taken advantage of their 6 bottles of wine for 25% off delivery deal probably too often  ;)

What does annoy me is that the online experience can be glitchy, such as the site showing clubcard price when viewing the item but seeing that disappear once it's been added to the basket (I think because the delivery date comes after the deal expiry, but this shouldn't be a hard problem to solve by their site developers)

Also, It's funny how the elderly simultaneously need to shop online AND be able to walk into bricks and mortar bank branches.

Indeed, one of the great paradoxes of our time.
