I have one that I use if my dog was left in the car at a show.
I press the switch, close the door and lock it as normal.
It prvents the dog setting the alarm/immobiliser off.
Best bet for op is just to put key in ignition & turn car on.What would putting the key in the ignition achieve, and more to the point how would you do that after you have locked the car?0 -

Modern cars have the transponder as part of the circuit board with the buttons on.The way to tell for sure is to remove it and see if the car will start with the bare key (ONLY TRY ONCE*) then replace it and start the car. If it doesn't start with just the bare key and a key symbol appears on the dash then there was no transponder in the key- on older cars they are a tiny tube just a bit bigger than a grain of rice dropped/glued in a cavity in the key top.*If you try and start it several times in a row without the transponder (or with an unrecognised transponder) in the key it can brick the ECU and you will have to get a thief, a locksmith or a dealer to reset it via the OBD portI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
