Can anyone suggest a way to contact HMRC without using a telephone (I have a voice disability) ?
I have used their website through the Gateway system but everything is a tick box system, even their tech guys couldn't find a way of sending a simple message.
I have sent a letter (very analogue) but they don't reply.
I did find out however, the reason for a recent tax code change- HMRC was advised that I  withdrew money from my SIPP pension, it appears they then times the amount by 12, determined it was salary from my 'new employer' Hargreaves Lansdown and moved me in to the higher tax bracket (I am 76).
This has resulted in me losing pension income, which was modest to begin with.
Is this AI the future?

Dont you use BT Relay then? A free service for those that a deaf and/or can't speak. You effectively call a BT agent who calls whoever you want to speak to and depending on your disability(s) you type to them, they read it out and then they type back the reply.

Obv in your case if your hearing is fine you type, they speak, you listen and type a reply.

A friend uses it and does get a little self conscious when there is a long queue to get through to a number and the agent will ask "are you happy to wait" but thats what they are paid to do and they've had calls over an hour of waiting (occasionally an agent does switch mid call but is seamless to you other than the change of voice reading out your text. )

What part of HMRC do you need? There are some that you can get to via Live Chat but you can't sit and wait there, they limit the queue to X people so often you are told you have to try later.

That is the standard way PAYE. Works and has done for many years.

HMRC do not know it is a one of  payment.

It can be avoided by  splitting it into 12 monthly payments over the year.

Or. Take one payment at the end of the tax year- March- when  any available allowances for the year are available.

Text relay looks like your way forward.

If you can get through on the general HMRC number (perhaps call at  8am) and can speak to them they will transfer you to the Extra Support Team (M- F 8am 6pm) - they do not have a direct number or email address, but if you explain in low level detail they will then understand you need a different communication method, they said that they have an online support, I am not sure that is what you are looking for.  If not, you can try to type in a message on the HRMC community forum and post what you said above and they should be able to use the contact details they have for you to get in touch with you.  (I have just seen the link above.)
