I was just after any tips & tricks we may not have thought about for saving water really here 🙏🏻
I was also shocked when I has learnt that the calculation of my waste water usage as a percentage of my clean water consumption, TW explained that they have to do something with the waste water otherwise, it will be 'dirty color water..'
1/ in terms of readings, take a photo and email it to TW, you can use it as proof of what and when (I know it can be done online)

2/ in terms of saving water, some ideas:
    - boil the amount of the water needed
    - water plants etc with used washing up water
    - wait till the load is full before switching on the machine
    - Install water saving device for taps and showers
    -  use a sandtime for shower / washing up
    - fill a cup  with water when brushing teeth
    - turn taps off when not using eg shampooing when not rinsing out and same for washing up / use a washup bowl
    - there are more tips on the internet.

Why were you shocked? Where are you taking all this water that you then dump away from your home?

Thames Water do not accept meter readings by email unless they specifically ask for them, they should be supplied online.

That does not save any water, although it does save energy.

That depends how you wash up, various soaps will harm or even kill plants, whilst that will be a long term water saving as dead plants do not need watering it is far from ideal.

This usually works, although in summer it can result in a smelly dishwasher.

Using less when showering can have an impact, but the reality is most of the saving comes from not having baths and not using extreme power showers. If anyone needs a timer for the shower rather than just learning how to wash in a reasonable amount of time then they are failing as an adult.

Or just do not leave the tap running.

Using a washing up bowl is grim as you are swilling the thing you are trying to clean around in dirty water, a full dishwasher is the most efficient way to wash up. Lots of people do turn off the shower when applying shower gel etc. but equally some do not.

There are, but a lot of them are a load of rubbish, or minimal at most. Unless one is deliberately wasteful then water is actually quite cheap, apart form high flow power showers, watering gardens, filling pools etc. and just leaving the tap on for hours water usage really is not that high, or expensive, when you look at the cost per litre.
  • @subjecttocontract already done, if I hadn’t I would not know it went up 278%! and nothing changed our end. The point of the post has been missed totally, it was water saving tips.

I appreciate  that you were asking for tips and there have been some goods posted.

The experience of some of us is that big increases in cost/consumption have a reason.  Yes there are some big increase in cost - mine by 40% -  but yours is suggesting a leak.

Where actually is your meter - in the footpath or in your property. Have you read it ?

Edit . PS not forgetting those meter readings please
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
