Emerald energy caller

Just had a caller come to my house from Emerald Energy saying that i could get a new boiler and some insulation under the ECO4 scheme and that they work with my local council (Lincolnshire south kesteven) He says that i could qualify because i take medication for high blood pressure although when i mentioned my solar panels he said that could be a problem.
They want to send someone round to do a survey, is this safe or a scam as i am very wary of getting stuff for free and all the scammers out there.

"Taking medication for high blood pressure" is not one of the qualifying factors for ECO4. If the unsolicited caller is fibbing about that, they're probably up to no good (although it might be as simple as they only get paid for positive referrals).

I'm in agreement with QrizB : I wouldn't underestimate the % of cowboys in the energy efficiency game. In my view, vastly outnumbers the honest folks out there.

    You accepted a survey?

Cold callers get short shrift at my address and asked to depart which they are obliged to do by law.

I think they could be entitled to turn up for the purpose of a survey if you have agreed for them to come but it is not to late to cancel. You do not have to accept them.

    Yes I would cancel.

This is completely incorrect, if you Google it its on the list of qualifications for the eco 4 grant.
The reason the cold callers go to people's houses is people just aren't aware of the grants and they get paid to find eligible homeowners.

There certainly are companies out there cold calling to try to generate leads for ECO4, which includes things like boiler upgrades or ASHP installs, insulation (including IWI and EWI), and solar installs, and we continue to receive calls despite having already had our property updated under the scheme in 2024.
No doubt there are cowboys in any industry, and unfortunately government grant schemes do encourage people to set up in business and target that funding stream, where homeowners have little or no choice in selecting contractors who will undertake the work, which can lead to hear today, gone tomorrow operators.
There was another story on the BBC today detailing the number of installations of insulation that may require remedial work to be undertaken:

Our green credentials: 12kW Samsung ASHP for heating, 7.2kWp Solar (South facing), Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh), Net exporter

I tend to take posts from new MSE forum users who appear to have joined solely to counter what I have shared as highly vindicating.
