DVLA licence renewal refuse to accept my passport photo

I am required to renew over 70 licence. They promote doing this online, but after going through the whole process including giving passport number etc it states its not possible to use online photo as DVLA are unable to confirm my identity online. It gives no reason on why this is the case. I then called their chat line…

The issue with the photocard licence is that unless you renew it every 10 years, technically you are driving without a valid licence and may be subject to a £1000 fine. Whether you are "really" driving without a valid licence, as in never had one, is subject to debate. Even with an out of date photocard licence, the DVLA will still send you an invitation to renew when you reach 70.
