TANK REMOVAL

Currently with Avanti, and out of contract. Tried to switch but informed that my above tank is non compliant, due to boundaries not being within the required distance. I am considering changing my energy supply to an electric boiler. Can anyone advise if I will need to pay the costs for removing the tank?

What type of tank is it - gas or oil?We had a non-compliant oil tank and changed our heating to an ASHP.
I advertised our redundant tank on Facebook as free to any takers. There was lots of interest and one guy came with a trailer and took it away. He wanted it for use on a farm. (He also brought containers to drain off any residual oil before moving it. )0 -

To actually answer your question and not give you a lecture you didnt ask for, no you donrt pay for the removal of a tank you dont own.
Avanti took there tank they own when i changed to oil. No charge.

The above ground tank is for LPG gas. Looking at energy supply options, as creating new groundworks to accommodate a tank, has costs for me. Not happy with erratic deliveries, committing to a 2 year contract, and pricing with LPG suppliers. So your comments are most appreciated. Is oil rather than LPG cost effective? Also looking at ASHP, but that appears to be an expensive set up option. Considering an electric boiler, only because of the simplicity by comparison for installation, but agree the running costs could out way this option.1

I changed to oil because i own the tank, i can shop round for the best price as i wish, not someting you can do with LPG (although it is possible to own a LPG tank it is rare.1

Looking to switch from LPG altogether, just trying to find and compare alternatives.

If you don't have adequate hard standing for the tank, that will be another cost you'd need to factor in.Whilst an ASHP may be expensive, compared to a new oil (or gas) boiler plus tank, I suspect the difference will not be that great. Running costs should be similar until oil/gas prices rocket. High upfront cost with low(er) day to day running costs. If you know how many kWhs of LPG you currently use, you should be able to work out how much an electric boiler would cost. With that information in hand, you can make an informed decision as to which would be best. Her courage will change the world.

Just be aware that an electric boiler will cost around four times as much per kwh as oil or even lpg. So work out how much lpg costs per year and multiply that by four to get an idea of your electricity cost for the same amount of heat.
If you dont have mains gas then consider a heatpump which although expensive up front should cost around the same or less than lpg to run and you do get a grant to replace fossil fuels boilersNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1 -
Thank you for your comments, found them very helpful. Looking into a heat pump solution. My current lpg boiler is 18 years old, which will probably need replacing sooner rather than later, that combined with the costs for creating a new site to move the LPG tank, could make a heat pump solution more viable if I can save on running costs.0
