I suggest  the item was a poor quality fit....which might 'cover' you?

I assume that’s where they would check eligibility for the claim?
I would assume they’ll look at the place you ordered from, if they look at all, it’s more a question of whether they agree the situation is covered.

From what I understand the bank put the money back in your account but if the retailer successfully defends the bank then claws it back again.

On the one hand you can truthfully say to the bank you returned because the quality was poor but if the retailer defended with copies of the email saying it didn’t fit it then looks like you wasn’t truthful if you see what I mean.

Tricky one but then I tend to overthink things so it might end up being straightforward.

@born_again is our resident expert on how these things work so they might pop by with some thoughts.

    Lesson learned.
Yes it’s a shame as being nice rarely seems to get you anywhere, not to suggest one has to be nasty but I guess with these kind of things it’s better to simply be factual to cover yourself :)
Chargeback do not cover quality, as it is far too subjective. Which poor fit would fall under.

You can try not as described, but just be aware they might contest.

Thankyou for this, would I not select ‘credit not processed’ given the seller agreed to the return? Received it back then blocked me?

    This is what it says
This is presumably Starling telling you what happens in the case of a "change of mind"
Their regulator would not be pleased to hear that they do not meet their obligations of treating customers fairly

Could this be for instore purchases?
I've just looked at their website and found a totally different page regarding chargeback which seem the OP would be covered with.
Youll be able to raise a dispute for the following:
    - I’ve got a problem with a refund, which the merchant confirmed they would provide

Thank you, that is what I had clicked on (issue with refund) before getting the above message. When I press next I am met with the 15 day rule. I will keep emailing the merchant (knowing they will ignore me) but will keep for evidence and when it gets to 15 days, I will raise the dispute and let you know the outcome. The item was purchased on the 12th, delivered on 15th and returned the same day. I really appreciate all the help, thankyou!

Wouldn't worry too much about what Shopify says OP, the bank will have rules laid down by VISA or Mastercard which either will or won't apply to you meaning the chargeback either will be valid or won't.

See what happens with the bank and if you get any problems post back with some details of what the bank said for more help (or if you get a result always good to hear how these things turned out).

Change of mind is for both in-store & online chargebacks. No cover.
