Amazon late delivery - not actually coming, how can I get a refund?

I placed a prime order on the 18th to come on the 19th. Eventually I get told it's not coming, but I can't cancel or do anything else, as the seller gets until the 24th.
The item was for my holiday, such is tomorrow, the 22nd, so I don't need it now. I need the money back and the order cancelled.
The seller is ignoring all messages from myself and Amazon. Every time I try and speak to customer service, I get told they can't do anything and I should refuse the order when it comes - which I can't, as it won't be in. I've checked, and the courier don't even have the item.
I got told by one agent, "well, you bought it".
Is there any way I can get this order cancelled and sort out a refund asap?

In a nutshell, no.Even if they processed the refund today, it would still take a few days to show in your account.Wait until the 24th and request a refund through the website.1

No, because it may still arrive in the prescribed window.
You'll just have to return it for a refund when you get back from your holiday.0 -

On the very few occasions when a prime order has not arrived on schedule Amazon has apologised and given me a £5 gift voucher.
Make sure you get yours.1 -

It sounds like you are not dealing with Amazon direct but a 3P seller which means that whatever delivery window they give you is nonsense and meaningless. You cannot hold them accountable for it. You will need to wait and give them time to deliver the item to you and only after a good amount of time has passed which is around two weeks you can reach out to Amazon to get them to refund to you. If you want to know exactly how long you have to wait for a no delivery before you can ask for a refund then you will need to ask the Amazon agent directly "What if it does not arrive?" and they will be very happy to answer.
If it does arrive until then and I am honestly sure it will you will need to discuss a refund with the seller but they will probably want it unopened and for you to pay the return cost.
Dealing with 3P sellers is always problematic and they are not Amazon.1 -
The OP has said they have been told the item is not coming. If that was by the vendor, I can certainly understand their frustration in not being able to get the refund process moving.1

The OP has not said who gave them this information.
And other comments such as 'refusing delivery' advice from Amazon customer services seems to contradict the statement about it's not coming.0
