Because it isn't operated fairly. Barriers are deliberately open and the signs are appallingly lacking, such that too many drivers are tricked into not knowing or remembering to pay.wolvoman said:

it’s a tiny charge compared to the cost of the flight. It’s a way of encouraging more sustainable transport use to the airport. It’s private land so up to the land owner to charge or not and it eases traffic for buses and other vehicles around the terminal.
Then the scam PPCs issue £100 PCNs.
That needs banning.
A barrier to delay vehicles for a few seconds, to enable them to pay £5 or so, to be let out of the zone is fine.
The current systems are a moneymaking trap.
It is also unrealistic to think that people are not going to mainly use cars at Airports in the middle of the night or in the early hours. Of course people will not use non-existent sustainable travel at 4am.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

@wolvoman Why not?
Your reasoning is flawed as C-mad points out above. Can't see why you're comparing flight cost to the drop off charge or what sustainable travel you had in mind...a bike. And what are these other vehicles you are referring to when you say "it eases traffic for other vehicles around the terminal".
You know it was recently reported nine of the busiest 10 airports in the EU charge nothing to drop off passengers.

The one that does Schipol Amsterdam charge 2.5 euro £2.16 .... rip off Britain ? ... prob just my misconception 😉

I wanted to do this a couple of years ago and thought I would get the train to Stansted from my local station until I tried to book the return journey only to find that trains don't run after a certain time and after my plane's arrival! Hey Ho back in the car. I refuse to fly now because of that, security queues, check-in issues, faulty passport machines, being forced to walk miles through the shopping mall .......... Now I drive to Europe but that might stop soon as the passport situation at our ferry and Le Shuttle ports is worsening.wolvoman said:it’s a tiny charge compared to the cost of the flight.
