TUI misleading app adds

A choice of 1 airport across the whole of their 24 UK locations is a strange definition of "Fly Local" from TUI - quite an inventive use of language !!!Unless you live within the Gatwick catchment area of course in this case.

If you're really troubled by it there's always the ASA.0

Maybe this should be in Praise, Vent & Warning...0

Maybe TUI should be clearer in definitions ?Joined up thinking has rarely been their strong suit.0

I'm sure someone will have the email address of the CEO.
It would be interesting to hear if anyone else who uses Facebook (I avoid it like the plague) is seeing the same annoying adverts.
And perhaps you could clarify this:eskbanker said:
Perhaps OP will clarify but I understood the ads are being shown by Facebook (and therefore controlled by their algorithms) rather than Tui's own app?TELLIT01 said:
If the app is saying 'Fly local' I would certainly expect it to be limited to availability from local(ish) airports, maybe 100 miles max. Companies collect all manner of information so just asking for the first half of a postcode when signing up the for app would make it simple to direct adds to the right people.eskbanker said:Are you suggesting that you should only see adverts for hotels reachable by direct flight from your nearest airport?0 -

Surely the thread title should be 'Facebook showing misleading TUI ads'...0 -

Well, there are reasons why ads may be generic, including disabling or deleting cookies, using a private browser window, opting for non-personalised ads, and so-on.Me, I don't like personalised ads, so I'd be more concerned if they did show they know too much about me.On Facebook I just need to look at one thing for sale and then subsequent search results include things it thinks I just must be striving to find to complete my otherwise dull and boring life.As for TUI, their ads may well be managed separately or not use (near) real-time info for their targeting algorithms. And then on to the term "local" - I guess the location is local to someone! :-)So I'd say that the ads are poorly targeted (or just scattergun) rather than misleading.0
