I was given the date, time and place of my late DM's direct cremation. Couldn't attend but was pleased to know the details.0 -
I only know one case of direct cremation.
The husband was advised, at short notice , of the date and that it would be at 8.30am.He arranged a meal with family for later that day.1 -
Most councils offer unattended slots at their local crematorium if you prefer to have a choice of location and date. You'll also be able to visit in the chapel at the funeral home if you want to.
Direct Cremations offered by funeral directors are usually at a private crematorium they have a contract with so may be some distance away. You won't get a choice of date.
The one that advertises on tv all the time transports all deceased to Andover for cremation1 -
Mum had a direct cremation last year with a well known high street company, and nobody was allowed to attend the crematorium.
I was the person that organised it, and I must say that the service was very good from start to finish.
Communication with the funeral service office was excellent. I had one point of contact. She was very respectful and told me exactly what happens and what was required from me.
The plan was for mum to be cremated at the place they use which is slightly out of town, but they would book a slot at the garden of remembrance at our local crematorium, where the ashes of several family members have been scattered. I would collect the ashes from their office after the cremation and take them to the garden of remembrance.
I was told the cremation date in advance, and on the afternoon of that date I was called to confirm that it had taken place.
A few days later I was told mum's ashes were back with them, and so I went to their office to collect.
A few days later we buried mum's ashes at the garden of remembrance, which was recorded.
It was a fixed cost and although lots of extras were offered, she was very respectful and not pushy. We paid the exact price quoted.
