Time To Switch traffic light now red. Don't Switch

Following reports that npower will be increasing prices tomorrow, our switching traffic light has now turned to red. Now is not the best time to switch.

Full details of when it will be time to switch will be in the weekly e-mail.

I / We want to switch from the pre-payment system to the quarterly meter system as we find it is not for us, and we can pay via direct debit.

If we switch to this system (on british gas now for both), will we be locked into this when the cheapest supplier appears out of the mist.

    Regards,

    Alias

No, most contracts now are only for 28 days, and you won't get a new contract if you change your meter.
(If you move in, that contract isn't limited to 28 days.)

Spoke to british gas last night.

Have to change the account names, therefore close one account, open another.

Then they have to send new pre-payment cards out for gas and electric meter.

They they have booked an electric meter change from the token to the key meter, then they will send us out a new key.

Then within 7 days, they are going to contact us to arrange deposit / meter change to quarter meter / select price plan etc.

Then once this is done, ill file for the £20 compensation as they were ment to change the meter on the 10th december, but failed to arrive.

Hi I want to switch from Standard tarif and Online Saver (one for gas one for Elec) to the price fix 2008.

Is that still advisable to do? Want to do this today, any advise welcome!

I think fixed price tariffs are excluded from the traffic lights. I'm thinking the same myself but as we have our house on the market this is the reason i didn't fix last month.
  • Yes, I don't see the traffic lights are relevant for somebody considering switching to a fixed tariff. There doesn't seem to be anything saying this in Martin's blurb? I would have thought that NOW (january 4th 2008) was a very good time to be switching to a fixed tariff?

I agree especially if you are with NPower as this way you avoid the increases as there terms and conditions state that if you do not agree with an increase and tell them that you do not accept the new rates they will not apply to you providing you move to a new supplier which will take 4 to 6 weeks.

As a added bonus go through greesy Pallm to transfer to the scottish power fixed price deal until Nov 2008 on a dual elec/gas deal you get £50 back as well!!

So sorry Martin you are wrong on this one!!

Well I did it! I am not regsitered with greasy Palm unfortunately and didn't know of them, so missed out on the £50 which is a real shame cause I am broke. But, wondered if I had qualified anyway, cause I am with Swalec and I am just switching from a Standard Duel Fuel to a Price Fix with the same supplier. None of energyhelpline or Simply switch showed the Price Fix tarriff so I applied directly via Swalec website.

    Hope my application goes through.
