Advice - neighbours XL bully dog

I would 100% report this - if the dog is a registered XL bully, that will at least be checked, as will the security around the garden it is kept it, so that it can't escape without a muzzle. And the temperament around children for that matter - why anyone has this breed is beyond me. If it isn't an XL bully, at least that will have been checked as well and you will have done all you can. If you're worried about the owner suspecting you as the one who has reported it, just give it a little time. Any a good, responsible dog owner wouldn't mind anyway...3

I think he may have been looking after it for someone yes0 -
My golden retriever/ collie cross growled at entire dogs. Should he be reported?
A aggressive dog would nor growl a warning, It would be straight in2 -
Given the scary situation you found yourself in, it would be as well to prepare in case the same situation ever arises.
This is the best video I have found that shows you how to stop a dog attack:https://youtu.be/iE8IjSRouuU?si=vEBuUyfGinZB1iW1
I'd recomment taking a spare lead with you when you go out so that you can implement the advice quickly. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1 -

I have my relatives dog staying. I normally take him to the beach. I have not been well enough for a big walk, so took him to a green area in middle of my cul de sac. Just 10 mins throw ball for him and back to house.
Yesterday, a dog came out of nowhere at such a speed I didn't even see him coming. Went towards my dog, didn't bite but was aggressive.
Equally as quickly neighbour came running over, picked him up (no collar) and mutterd " dunno how he got out ".
I then realised it came from neighbours house a few doors down. Took him back & didn't say a word.
Hears the quandry - I think it may be an XL bully ? I'm not an expert but certainly looked like one. As nothing really happened (except scared me & dog to death) I'm not sure if to do anything?
I'm very worried as guy has children in the house.
Also worried if I should have had my dog off lead throwing ball on green?
I am aware I can report to crime stoppers anonymously but he will obvs know it's me !
Thoughts ?
If it was a Xl Bully 36 to 60 kg wouldn't fancy my chances of picking it up3 -

The guy was around 6'6 and stocky and strong himself

I realise this is different to your situation where the dog did behave in a way that scared you which is not ok. Just wanted to say that looks aren’t everythingAll shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Good luck with being able to have the strength to overcome a powerful dog , fired up with Adrenalin. If you succeed what do you do with that fired up dog who will probably turn his aggression onto you as the nearest option ?A Kerry blue terrier grabbed a lab pup at my training class
The trainer grabbed its collar as shown and twisted it to tighten it. Kerry hung on.
He lifted the dog up until its back feet were off the ground.
Kerry. hung on with the lab pup still in his mouth. It took the addition of a second trainer to release the pup , who was unharmed, as the Kerry had grabbed the loose skin behind the head.0 -

It could be a mastiff, an American bully as distinct from an xl bullie , or a boxer staffy cross.
All these dogs could look like an xl bullie.
.
OP was concerned because it growled. Growling is a warning is a warning that a dog is uncomfortable which people tend to ignore or chastise a dog for giving a warning. If a dog is growling do not make eye contact, back away my slowly.
Does a dog have to kill people to be ‘ dangerous.?’.
Earlier this year my friend’s lab was attacked by a gsd type dog which suddenly appeared in a wood where she was walking. The lab was traumatised and needed urgent surgery. He had several bites including a hole between his ear canal and his cheek.
My friend was bitten while trying to protect her dog. She needed hospital care and has a large scar across her knee.
But it was not an xl bullie and it didn’t kill her.Does that mean it is not a dangerous dog?
Breed specific legislation is totally wrong.2
