EON overbilling help

in Energy
Hi all, I hope someone has experience and/or advice on this - I don’t know what else to do.
I all but moved out of my flat 6 months ago (only stayed overnight 3 times since then) as I also had a lease on a new property in a different city for work.
I expected my energy usage/bills to be next to nothing for the past 6 months. But the usage on my smart meter has increased slightly each month, leading to EON has increasing my electricity DD (no gas at the flat).
Obviously I questioned this, EON had me send over pictures and videos of the meter, as well as that of neighbouring meters (the whole building was with EON) but repeatedly have come back with ‘your meter is correct therefore your bills are as well’. They have no explanation for why usage has increased in a virtually unoccupied property.
All appliances and heaters have been turned off at the wall, apart from fridge/freezer, which is brand new.
The building supply is no longer with EON so they’re saying they no longer have access to the data. After a lot of back and forth, they’re offering a ‘goodwill gesture’ of writing off my final account balance of £140 and change, but what about the DD payments I made for energy I didn’t use for 6 months? This can’t be right.
Early on in the complaint process, one of the agents mentioned there could’ve been crossed wires when assigning supply to flats but that’s not been brought up again.
What can I do?

Are you 100% sure if the meter is yours ?
What was the reading when you moved out (6 months ago) - what is it today ?
Fridge/freezer perhaps 1kWh / day
6 months ago were you in credit/debit ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Crossed meters in flats with communal meter cupboards is very common. You need to do a sanity check to find out which meter actually belongs to your flat. Easier to do with two people, one at the meter and one in the property. Pick a quiet time of day when as many people are out / not using much energy and turn on a couple of big loads in the flat - heaters, cooker etc and watch which meter starts using a lot, switch them off and see if that meter slows down.Once you have done that you will need to bring the whole building on board to do the same.0

6 months ago were you in credit/debit ?My reading 6 months ago was 5583 and the most recent one was 6862. My account was in a small amount of credit 6 months ago but I had a monthly DD set up to cover my regular usage.0 -

Contact the new tenant, warn them that they may have a problem and suggest they do the Meter Sanity Test.0

I don't usually like giving up on this sort of thing, but it feels like the time when you could have fixed this has passed...Your supplier no longer has access to the meter, you no longer have access to the meter or the building.1
