Just updating this thread, to ask what to do next.
Having received a second letter about the parking fine of my original post, today I have received a letter from Debt Recovery Plus telling me i have three options:
 1: Pay £170
2: Pay £42.50 per month over 4 months
3: Fail to pay and your financial loss will increase significantly if your case goes to court and you are unsuccessful
What is my course of action now?0

What is my course of action now? It's not a fine - private companies cannot issue fines.A general rule is not to identify yourself as the driver, but rather keep things as "the keeper" (but not "the keeper parked"!).The "financial loss" threats are harrassment and if the wording was "your financial loss will increase significantly if your case goes to court and you are unsuccessful" then it is a bit of a porkie: it would depend upon you losing in court AND refusing to pay.The "appeal" process is part of a dance which you will almost certainly lose (the "appeals" body is run by the parking companies).Don't be tempted to think: i. you are dealing with an authority, and ii. the company cares about anything other than getting your money.

I thought that might be the case just wanted to check in to make sure I didn't need to do anything now I've had this debt recovery letter. I shall continue to do nothing with it.ChirpyChicken said:4. Follow the advice I have already given you, which you dont appear to have read or chosen to ignore
It certainly feels a lot like harassment and threats to get one to pay up. That is the actual wording from the letter re the financial loss increasing! It's not a fine - private companies cannot issue fines.A general rule is not to identify yourself as the driver, but rather keep things as "the keeper" (but not "the keeper parked"!).The "financial loss" threats are harrassment and if the wording was "your financial loss will increase significantly if your case goes to court and you are unsuccessful" then it is a bit of a porkie: it would depend upon you losing in court AND refusing to pay.The "appeal" process is part of a dance which you will almost certainly lose (the "appeals" body is run by the parking companies).Don't be tempted to think: i. you are dealing with an authority, and ii. the company cares about anything other than getting your money.1
