Car insurance - DOC
I've been getting quotes ahead of renewal in 3 wks. One aspect the aggregators are silent on is the issue of DOC cover. I'm spending a lot of time unnecessarily completing proposals only to find out the policy quoted may not be suitable.
Any ideas which companies offer DOC as standard?

Admiral do but with all I think it's age dependentRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

Is there a reason DOC is your main factor in choosing a policy
It's also going to be dependent on your occupation1 -
Its something I wouldn't be without and have found Aviva, GA and LV all offer it as standard.0

My First Alternative (subsidiary of esure) includes driving other cars (DOC) on a 3rd party only basis.0

Do they offer it as standard, or do they offer it as standard to you?daveyjp said:Its something I wouldn't be without and have found Aviva, GA and LV all offer it as standard.
Where insurers do include it, it tends to be something that they include if the policyholder meets certain criteria - at least a certain age, licence held for a certain number of years, possibly reductions based on occupation and claims history as well. So the fact that you had DOC cover with those insurers didn't necessarily mean that someone else would have it as well.2 -
I'll keep up the search. I don't know why its not offered as an option when completing the proposal, save a lot of wasted time.Posting for 21 years...https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/profile/27233/ohreally0

You've not mentioned age. If you're 24 it will be very different options to if you're 44.ohreallƳ said:I'll keep up the search. No reason why it couldn't be however it requires the aggregator to want to do it and have all the companies on their panel (or their software houses if they use an off the shelf product) to update their APIs and/or websites to expose if DoC is available unless there are universal rules they can give the aggregator to determine for themselves.ohreallƳ said:I'll keep up the search. As with anything, ultimately the aggregators have deemed other updates to their websites will generate more revenue for the same spend as this so it's not been created. There is a vast array of other inner limits and product features they could expose, particularly with more complex products like Home but dont.
Having conducted some customer research in the past, there are many features that most comprehensive policies have that customers have no idea exists (even though its been in their policy book every year they've bought insurance). Despite the fact they dont know they're there most say, after being told it exists, that they wouldnt buy insurance without it.1 -
If it helps anyone, a lot of time was wasted with proposal to Tesco insurance, only when getting beyond the front pages and entering lots of details does one discover DOC is not included.
Eventually get a quote from RAC which include DOC.
Another thing noticed, returning to already provided quotes, I was unable to simply click through and purchase a policy as doing so simply retriggered a new quote at a higher price as I'm no longer 3 weeks out but more like three days; I felt that was disingenuous.Posting for 21 years...https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/profile/27233/ohreally0 -
Quotes tend to only be valid for a set period. Not endless. 👍ohreallƳ said:If it helps anyone, a lot of time was wasted with proposal to Tesco insurance, only when getting beyond the front pages and entering lots of details does one discover DOC is not included.
