Thanks Everyone for the help with this !

    - Old contract is still working.......and I live in London btw (so any advice on best mobile provider here would be welcome)
    - In terms of phone use, data is most important for me - so switching to an MVNO not really best in my case - I actually just want a fair shake from Vodafone......after 20+ years of my custom, and a mis-sold policy incident, I think that is totally reasonable !

@la531983 just curious- how are you qualifying what does or doesn't fall under Ofcom’s interest/remit in cases like this?
"Although we can't investigate individual cases"

    https://www.ofcom.org.uk/make-a-complaint/complain-about-mobile-phone-or-internet-services/the-way-a-service-was-sold

For what looks like an individual humdrum (no offence) customer service issue, that can easily be resolved, I really wouldn't waste your time.

I find it hard to believe that somehow a 2 year contract with Vodafone is better value than a virtual network. Are you comparing like with like,  or just loyal to Vodafone?
Unlimited data on Vodafone is £24 + annual price rises on a 24 month contract.
Unlimited data on 1p mobile (EE network) is £25 on a 30 day basis, with no contract and you can change the data amount every month if you want.

    Then start again
I'd echo that but with the additional word at the end "elsewhere". I used to be a direct Vodafone customer and got so fed up with this sort of service I've moved elsewhere. Still on the Voda network but better deals with Lebara (and previously Voxi)

Not sure what the issue is with MVNO, I've been on Vodafone network for 15 years and not noticed any difference between providers using the same network. Why not just stay Voda if you're happy with coverage but via a different provider.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
