Causing more expense to others is a win-win for you? That seems pretty malignant to me. Causing harm to others is not a social good. What goes around comes around. Try to do good and avoid doing harm in your life, and hope that others do the same for you.fest0r said:Further expense to Santander while the "poor employee" is being paid for their time, incurring yet another expense, a win-win!2 -
You would expect a group of adult business owners to act a little more maturely. Social media certainly breeds some strange behaviours.Futuristic said:

If we are going to get all moralistic here then my own view is helping to support the universal postal service contains more moral good than the enrichment of Santander's owners. Although neither is significant enough for anyone to get morally outraged over it.I'm also struggling to identify the trauma employees might suffer from opening a few empty envelopes, or perhaps more likely, whilst supervising a machine opening empty envelopes.5 -
I agree there is no trauma or significant expense caused to anyone (other than perhaps the individuals wasting a small amount of time that could be better spent on their businesses). It certainly won’t make the slightest difference to Santander. That’s what makes it all very futile and a complete waste of time. But I guess it makes the individuals feel like they’ve achieved a small win, even though it has zero real impact.Section62 said:GeoffTF said:

It's no different to switching back on postal statements, going to the FOS to 'make' Santander pay £650 or advising friends/family to close their accounts with Santander. Similarly, those who have moved their current accounts to Santander for the free £200 to mitigate this and then intend to leave again as soon as possible.1

Not only will you be inflicting trauma on those "poor employees" but we are told that person who came up with this idea has "mental issues".
The completely impartial support for this plucky little global banking conglomerate is admirable. Just accept what Santander tell you and certainly don't take any action against them. Anything you do will have absolutely no effect so I'm asking you (repeatedly) to take no action.
There is no point in me even suggesting you take no action because it has no effect either way, but remember, take no action, just go away quietly.2 -
I agree it (the pre-paid envelopes) is no different to switching back to postal statements - both have no significant impact other than to make the individual feel better about themselves.amyfairweather said:It's no different to switching back on postal statements, going to the FOS to 'make' Santander pay £650 or advising friends/family to close their accounts with Santander. I’d say it is hugely different to the FOS complaints, as that does potentially have a larger financial impact (although someone on here suggested they might not actually be charged £650 per complaint?) but I suspect it’s something that Santander already factored in before making the decision. Same goes for advising friends and family to move accounts.
Moving accounts continuously for incentives is something everyone should have been doing anyway. There are hundreds of posts over the years on here of people doing just that. You don’t need to want revenge on a bank to be doing that, it’s just a sensible way to grab some free money.1 -

You don’t need to want revenge on a bank to be doing that, it’s just a sensible way to grab some free money. No, it will not have a significant effect on the value of our pension funds or on the benefits available to other Santander customers. Nonetheless, spiteful action (particularly against a company that has treated them so well over the years) is impossible to justify in my view.Perhaps people do have mental health issues if they need to engage in this sort of activity to make them "feel better about themselves". It is healthy for people to feel better about themselves when they do something good rather than something bad.No, Santander will not pay £650 per complaint.Moving burner accounts just to collect incentives is morally questionable. I do not think it is something that people "should do". Nonetheless, banks must have foreseen that some people would do that, and they must be aware that it is happening now.0 -
I thought people on this thread ran businesses, and I guess you've all had to put your prices up at least once in the last decade. I hope your customers were not as selfish in running up unnecessary work and costs as a result!fest0r said:Futuristic said:
So a poor employee has to handle with someone’s mental issues? How professional. It doesn’t hurt the top directors who made this decision. Thanks for bringing attention to this and posting it again Futuristic, great idea. I must have missed the original post.
Further expense to Santander while the "poor employee" is being paid for their time, incurring yet another expense, a win-win!

Reneging on a contractual agreement now equates to putting up your prices? Congrats, that’s first-class spin… from The Banker!TheBanker said:
